NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., March 30, 2022 – Taking on the No. 1-ranked team in the NJCAA Division III, Rowan College South Jersey – Gloucester, the Monroe College Mustangs baseball team dropped an 11-0 decision to the Roadrunners on Wednesday at Dick Caswell Field.
The Roadrunners got a big jump on the Mustangs in the top of the second. The visitors put seven runs on the board for a sizable advantage over Monroe. The game was then quiet until the top of the fifth, when the Roadrunners added two more runs. The visitors picked up two more in the sixth to go up, 11-0, eventually forcing the run-rule finish after six.
Je-andrick Lourens took the loss for Monroe to fall to 2-2 on the year. He struck out seven batters across his five frames of work. Patrick Taney earned the win in relief to improve to 1-0.
Salix Felix batted 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a walk in the game.
Pedro Crespo hit 1-for-3 with a stolen base as well.
The Mustangs will look to flip the script on the season with a crucial weekend series against Region 15 rival ASA College (NYC) at Dick Caswell Field this coming weekend. The five-game series begins with a single contest on Friday, April 1, at 3 p.m., before a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
