BROOKLYN, N.Y., January 19, 2022 – In its first Region 15 matchup of the 2021-22 campaign, the Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball team never wavered in a 93-54 victory over ASA College (NYC) Wednesday evening at The Post. The Mustangs improve to 8-10 overall and 1-0 in region play, while the Avengers drop to 2-8 and 0-1.
Olivia Medford and
Daja Wentz each tallied season-highs on Wednesday. Medford led all scorers with 26 points, adding six assists, six rebounds and five steals. Wentz was next on the team with 21 points, five assists, five boards and three steals.
Naomi Barnwell totaled 16 points and a team-high 12 rebounds for her second straight double-double, adding four assists as well.
Tanae Arnold contributed eight points with three assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Amy Sangare had four points, 12 boards and five assists.
Rolling with a three-game winning streak over the last four days, the Mustangs continue a busy week on Thursday, Jan. 20, when they host Harcum College at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. matchup between the Monroe and Harcum men.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
