KEYSER, W.V. – The Monroe University softball team (15-11 overall) dropped their last games against WVU Potomac State College (13-3 overall) 11-3 and 8-5 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
·     The Catamounts took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning off an RBI double to center field, scoring a run to take a 1-0 lead.
·     Later in the inning, an RBI single to right field put them ahead 2-0.
·     The Catamounts added one more run in the inning off a single to center field to take a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
·     In the bottom of the second inning, the Catamounts tacked on two runs off a two-run home run to take a 5-0 lead.
·     Then, in the bottom of the third inning, the Catamounts added another run off an RBI single to center field to take a 6-0 lead.
·     The Mustangs got on the board in the top of the fourth inning, as Lizbeth Zambrano singled to center field, scoring Gabriella Pugliese to cut the Catamounts' lead to 6-1.
·     In the same inning, Anaya Sanchez grounded out to second base, scoring Zambrano to narrow the Catamounts' lead to 6-2.
·     Then, in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Catamounts added three more runs off a three-run home run to take a 9-2 lead.
·     In the top of the fifth inning, Sophia Davis singled to right field, scoring a run to cut the Catamounts' lead to 9-3.
·     But the Catamounts responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take an 11-3 lead and victory.
Game 2
·     The Mustangs opened game two with a run in the top of the second inning as Zambrano scored to take a 1-0 lead.
·     The Catamounts responded with an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1.
·     Then, in the top of the third inning, Pugliese ripped an RBI single, scoring two runs to give the Mustangs a 3-1 lead.
·     The Catamounts cut the Mustangs' lead to 3-2 off a fielder's choice which scored a run in the bottom of the third inning.
·     In the top of the fourth inning, Sophia Davis ripped a single, scoring a run to give the Mustangs a 4-2 lead.
·     But the Catamounts answered in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring two runs off an RBI triple and single to tie the game at 4-4.
·     An RBI single by Veronika Anderson in the top of the fifth inning put the Mustangs back in the lead 5-4.
·     Then the Catamounts scored four straight runs, with one coming in the bottom of the fifth inning off a wild pitch, tying the game at 5-5.
·     Then the Catamounts tallied a pair of RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead.
·     They closed the inning with a walked in run to take the 8-5 victory.
STATS AND NOTES
·     WVU Potomac State holds the all-time series lead 8-4.
·     Zoe Thomson started in the circle in game two, going four innings, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs while she struck out one batter.
·     Sophia Davis started in game one going 3.1 innings, allowing nine earned runs, nine hits and striking out one batter.
