Bronx, N.Y.–Sophomore Analissa Redmond made her 5K and season debut to highlight a tremendous day of competition for the Monroe University women's cross-country team at the Queensborough Invite on a gloomy, rainy Sunday afternoon. Freshman Zekisha Kelly was the next Mustang to cross the finish line, clocking in at 24:36.54. She was followed closely by sophomore Brooke Sheppard, who ran a season-best time of 24:43.94. Next was freshman Uzariel Hodge, who clocked a time of 24:49.12 in her official collegiate debut. Freshman Niera Eugene was the next finisher with a time of 25:03.53, followed by Freshman Jaden Edwards-Barry at 25:59.63 and Sophomore Anihra Wilkes at 26:05.70. Tricha Walker also made her official debut, rounding out the team with a time of 28:53.18.
"Today's course was very challenging; it was rainy and hilly. I am very proud of these ladies who took on today's challenge," said head coach Shirvon Greene. "It was a tough terrain and one of the toughest courses we have run all season. They had to battle the rain and slick conditions, as well as the course itself. I am happy and proud of the determination, resilience, and grit they showed on the course. They showed up today, ready for the challenge. This is definitely a step in the right direction. As our team motto says, 'KEEP SHOWING UP,' and that's exactly what they did today."
Monroe's next race is scheduled for Saturday, October 17th, for the season finale at the St. Joseph Invite in Kings Park, NY.
