Lebanon, PA – The Monroe University women's cross country team placed first at the LVC Last Chance Run Fast meet on Friday to conclude the team's regular season slate.
Sophomore
Tanesia Gardiner led the way for the Mustangs in the 6k, placing fourth overall with a time of 26:20.00. Next up for the Mustangs was freshman
Brooke Sheppard, who capped off her impressive debut season with a sixth overall finish with a time of 26:37.00.
Freshman
Anihra Wilkes was next for Monroe, placing 19th overall by running a personal-best time of 30:36.00. Freshman
Latejah Bailey (31:07.00) and sophomore
Julihanna Johnson (35:46.00) rounded out the Mustang runners as the team had a solid conclusion to its regular season slate.
"This was definitely new for the ladies — this was their first 6k of the entire season and they did very well," head coach
Shirvon Greene said. "This was a great way to end the regular season and I am happy with each of their performances. We will use these next couple of days to rest up and prepare for the national championships."
The Mustangs will have two weeks to prepare for the NJCAA Cross County Championships, which will take place on Saturday, November 8, in Fort Dodge, IA. Hosted by Iowa Central Community College, the championship meet is set to begin at 11:00 am.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
