New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University women's volleyball team had a dominant display in Sunday's straight set victory (25-6, 25-4, 25-4) over SUNY Ulster, completing the season sweep of the Senators.
Monroe didn't allow a single point to Ulster's offense as self-inflicted errors were all the Senators could muster in the midday matchup. Despite the seven errors on the attack and service, the Mustangs offense was humming to the tune of a .510 kill percentage.
Freshman
Adriana Garcia led the team with eight kills on ten attempts, while sophomore
Flavia Pecora went 5-for-5 on the attack as she continues to build up her efficiency mark. Sophomore
Emma Dedushaj paced the team with six services aces.
Dedushaj also made history in the match by moving into the top-five on the program's single-season digs leaderboard with her 531
st of the year. She currently sits 65 behind fourth place and 239 behind the all-time leader, Laura Paniagua (2021-22).
Monroe's win streak sits at 12 games, and its straight set streak is at seven. It will take on Harford Community College — the team that defeated the Mustangs in the 2024 Mid-Atlantic District Championship — on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
