New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University women's volleyball team earned its 13
th straight victory and eighth straight 3-0 sweep on Thursday against Harford Community College (25-12, 25-16, 25-13).
The Mustangs exacted revenge against the Fighting Owls after suffering a defeat in the Mid-Atlantic District Championship in their last meeting. The attack shined as they outscored Harford, 34-15, on kills.
Freshman
Alisha Pereira Rodriguez-Wells continued her strong play of late with 12 kills, while sophomore
Jelena Peric had eight, finding the gaps in the Fighting Owls defense well all evening.
Monroe used a late 8-0 run to take home the opening set. Behind a raucous crowd, it continued the momentum into set two despite a heftier fight from the Fighting Owls. In set three, Peric shined with four kills, including two over the final five points for the Mustangs.
Clicking on all cylinders, the Mustangs will travel to Rockville, MD, for a Friday showdown at Montgomery College. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
