Rochester, NY – Freshman
Wiktoria Mikrut of the Monroe University women's soccer team recorded a hat trick in a crucial 3-2 victory over No. 6 Monroe Community College on Saturday.
Mikrut secured her third hat trick of the season and second in a row. It came in a major spot as the Mustangs earned its first ranked win of the season against a Tribunes squad that ended their season on penalty kicks in the East District Tournament last November.
Mikrut is now up to 11 goals on the season in just six games.
Needing to set the tone on the road, Mikrut scored her first goal in the 13
th minute. While the Tribunes responded in the 37
th minute to enter the half tied at one, the Mustangs maintained their stance on the matchup with another goal by Mikrut three minutes into the second half.

Maiko Kikuchi then set up Mikrut for the final goal of the contest for Monroe in the 66
th minute. Holding onto a two-goal lead, the Tribunes made it interesting with an 80
th minute goal, but the defense held on as they make a big leap towards a national ranking next week.
Freshman
Magdalena Syrek was the catalyst for Monroe on the defensive end as the Poland native recorded a career-high nine saves — six of which coming in the second half as Monroe Community College played catch up.
The Mustangs remain unbeaten at 5-0-1 and will take on Harcum College on Friday at 1:00 pm.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
