Arnold, MD – The Monroe University women's volleyball team finalized its three-game weekend sweep with straight set victories over Anne Arundel Community College (25-9, 25-7, 25-12) and Howard Community College (25-5, 25-17, 25-11) on Saturday.
Monroe make quick work of both Maryland opponents, outscoring the two by a combined 89 points across the six sets of competition. Sophomore
Jelena Peric led the way offensively with 14 kills across the two matches.
Against Anne Arundel, sophomore
Fabiana Lopez shined with eight of the team's 21 service aces — a new game-high mark on the year. The Mustangs hit at a 40% clip — the second highest kill percentage on the year — to overwhelm the tri-match hosts.
In the next matchup versus Howard, sophomore
Deyja Tshibangu paced the team with eight kills. Fellow freshman
Chiara Lovadina registered a team-high 21 assists in the outing.
The Mustangs have lost just one since August 24 and 13-6 overall on the season. They will travel to Stone Ridge, NY, on Tuesday to take on SUNY Ulster at 7:00 pm.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
