New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University women's soccer team earned a convincing 6-0 win over Felician University JV on Thursday afternoon, continuing its unbeaten streak to start the season.
Monroe was fueled by a relentless offense that generated 17 shots on goal against Felician. Freshman
Wiktoria Mikrut paced the team with four shots on goal, while fellow freshman
Sara Dakdouka and sophomores
Valentina Carmona,
Leni Fohrer, and
Maiko Kikuchi each had two.
It didn't take long for the Mustangs to get on the board as Kikuchi scored off an assist from Fohrer in the 4
th minute. Freshman
Leonor Lirio De Sousa then scored her first goal for Monroe in the 27
th minute on a beautiful feed from sophomore
Chloe Ribeiro.
Freshman
Sara Dakdouka finalized the second half with two goals within two minutes of each other. Kikuchi assisted on the first before Lirio De Sousa set up Dakdouka on the second and final goal of the opening 45 minutes.
Out of the intermission, sophomore
Sakurako Hara secured her second goal of the season in the 56
th minute before freshman
Natalie Akoumany scored her first career goal on a deep ball.
Freshmen
Magdalena Syrek and
Victoria Ferreira combined for the clean sheet.
Monroe will head to Trenton, NJ, for its next contest at Mercer County Community College on Saturday at noon.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
