La Plata, MD – The Monroe University women's soccer team defeated Division II No. 17 College of Southern Maryland on Sunday, 8-1. Freshman
Wiktoria Mikrut secured a hat trick in the win, while sophomore
Leni Fohrer recorded four assists.
Monroe's eight goals — six of which were assisted on — are the most this season thus far and the most by the program since scoring 14 goals against Mohawk Valley Community College on August 31, 2024.
The onslaught began with a penalty kick from freshman
Chloe Ribeiro — her first goal of the season. Sophomore
Maiko Kikuchi then followed with her first goal of the season off the feed from Mikrut. The Poland native then began her track towards the hat trick, with Fohrer registering her first assist of the afternoon.
Fohrer then got on the board with her first goal of the season, moving her point total to three. Freshman
Julia Migacz assisted Fohrer on the score. Fohrer then added two more assists on goals from Mikrut and freshman
Sara Dakdouka.
Mikrut then registed her hat trick on the penultimate goal of the afternoon before sophomore
Sakurako Hara scored off the fourth assist from Fohrer, who finished the afternoon with six points, matching Mikrut's total.
Monroe remains unbeaten through three games in 2025 and will take on Felician University JV on Thursday at 1:00 pm.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
