New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University women's volleyball team earned a straight set victory (25-15, 25-13, 25-14) over Delaware Technical Community College on Wednesday.
The Mustangs made quick work of the Roadrunners as nine different players recorded a kill. Sophomore
Jelena Peric paced the team with 13 on the day, while fellow sophomore
Mileyshka Melendez teed up 21 scores. Freshman
Adriana Garcia had a solid day as well, recording nine kills and three service aces in the win.
A 6-0 run late put the first set in Monroe's rearview, while set two saw the visitors comfortably take control in the middle portion. A kill by Peric was the final punctuation as Monroe looked to be well on their way to a victory.
In set three, the Mustangs opened a 12-6 start off three consecutive kills by Peric. A late 6-0 run highlighted by two kills from Garcia eventually set up the winning point on a service error by Delaware Tech.
Monroe is on a roll, winning seven of its last eight. They will travel to North Branch, NJ, for a doubleheader on Saturday against Raritan Valley Community College and PSU Lehigh Valley. Game one against the hosts will be at noon before a 2:00 pm showdown versus the Nittany Lions.
