Football Announces Five Additions To Coaching Staff Ahead Of 2025 Season

New Rochelle, NY – Head coach of the Monroe University football team Kevin Pulley Jr. has announced the hiring of five new assistant coaches ahead of the 2025 season.

"Amongst all the new coaches, they all have something different they bring to [our group]," Pulley said. "Whether its youth or experience, whether it's the ability to communicate with the players, I think it's making us a better program overall."

Brandon Torrey rejoins the Mustangs staff as the new offensive tackles coach and special teams coordinator. A seven-year NFL veteran and former Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants in 2007, Torrey previously served as tight ends coach for the Monroe staff from 2017 to 2018. Since departing New Rochelle, Torrey made stops at his alma mater Howard University (offensive line), Norfolk State University (offensive line) and most recently Central Michigan University (tight ends/offensive tackles).

"As far as all the goals our guys want to achieve, Brandon has been there and understands what it takes to succeed," Pulley said. "His input and value are above and beyond what he is bringing to us."

Tyrie Mack enters his first year with the Mustangs as the new defensive backs coach. Mack previously coached at Minnesota West Community College as the pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach. Mack spent three years playing at Eastern Michigan University from 2014 to 2016 before embarking on a professional career that spanned five years. Mack mostly played in the Indoor Football League and received camp invites to both the XFL and CFL.

"As far as speaking the language our players speak, Tyrie has been really beneficial in getting the most out his position group," Pulley said.

Christopher Boyle joins the Monroe coaching staff as the new linebackers coach. His previous stint during the 2024 season saw Boyle oversee the offensive line while also serving as the run game coordinator and assistant recruiting coordinator at Western New Mexico University.

"Chris brings a variety of expertise to his role," Pulley said. "He has different ways of communicating because he's been in different places, but I think that's been beneficial in his position group gravitating towards him."

Halim Dixon-King returns to the Mustangs as the new wide receivers coach in 2025. Dixon-King enjoyed an illustrious career with the Mustangs from 2019 to 2021, becoming the program's all-time leader in receiving yards (1,168), receiving touchdowns (15) and catches (61). Dixon-King departed Monroe following the 2021 season to continue his collegiate playing career at Delaware State University and Missouri Southern State University.

"Halim understands the experience and what to expect [at Monroe]," Pulley said. "He's a lot more relatable to the players because he's been in their shoes."

Kyle Burton enters his first year of coaching as a student assistant coach. The Hollis, NY, native joined the Mustangs offensive line in 2024 before joining the coaching staff this season.

"Kyle is eager. He wants to do all the little things to try and get better and try to learn the position," Pulley said. "To take those steps will be something that will help him and us in the long run."

The Mustangs open their season on Saturday at Sussex County Community College at 3:00 pm in Newton, NJ.
