Uniondale, NY - Monroe Football finished its 2025 campaign on a high note, powering past Nassau Community College 27–10 on Saturday afternoon at Mitchel Field. The Mustangs came out firing from the opening whistle and never looked back, securing a winning season at 5-4 and delivering one of their most complete performances of the year.
Monroe wasted no time getting on the board. Jashaun Amin electrified the sideline with an 87-yard kickoff return touchdown just 18 seconds into the game, immediately flipping momentum in the Mustangs' favor. On the next possession, quarterback Jayden Young marched Monroe downfield and found Ezekiel Ashiagb on a perfectly placed 40-yard strike, pushing the lead to 14-0 midway through the first. Nassau answered with a field goal, but Monroe continued to dictate the pace with a balanced attack and aggressive defense.
The Mustangs extended their lead early in the second quarter after David Rodriguez's interception set up a short field. Zavry Ward punched in a one-yard touchdown, stretching the margin to 20–3. Nassau scored just before halftime to cut it to 20-10, but Monroe's defense locked in the rest of the way, forcing three fumbles, generating multiple stops, and holding the Lions scoreless over the final 30 minutes.
The play that sealed the afternoon came in the opening moments of the fourth quarter. On the first play of the drive, Jeffrey White broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run, pushing the lead to 27-10 and wiping out Nassau's comeback hopes. White was dominant all day, finishing with 127 rushing yards and a touchdown, averaging 6.0 yards per carry behind a physical Monroe front.
Defensively, Monroe swarmed Nassau's backfield and made critical plays in big moments. The Mustangs racked up six tackles for loss, forced three fumbles, and got an interception return from Rodriguez that set up a score. Benogo Diaby, Khamari Brown, Justice Jordan, and Qua'Yier Alexan all delivered standout moments across four quarters.
With the win, Monroe closes its season above .500, showcasing growth, resilience, and a physical identity on both sides of the ball. The Mustangs now shift into offseason mode with momentum and a strong foundation heading into 2026.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
