Hutchinson, KS – The Monroe University men's outdoor track and field team is set to compete at the 2025 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships from Thursday to Saturday. Preliminaries will be held on Thursday and Friday, with the finals taking place Saturday.
The Mustangs will kick off the competition on Thursday with sophomores
Siyabonga Mbatha,
Banele Mkabela and
Tinashe Bure, and freshman
Modou Sanneh competing in the finals of the 4x800m relay at 5:00 pm. Sanneh will then compete in the 400m prelims at 6:45 pm.
A packed Friday slate will begin with Mbatha competing in the 1500m at 1:15 pm. Bure will then take part in the 800m at 3:30 pm before sophomore
Dwayne Fleming draws a spot in the 200m at 4:05 pm.
Mkabela will then compete in the steeplechase at 4:50 pm before the quartet of Fleming, Bure, Sanneh and freshman
Anthony Barrett — off the heels of their record-breaking performance at the Penn Relays — take part in the 4x400m relay at 5:10 pm to close out the day.
Mkabela will once again tee off for the Mustangs on Saturday in the 5000m final at 3:50 pm. All other competitions will depend on Monroe's advancement during the preliminaries.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
