New Rochelle, NY – Freshman
Daniel German-Nero of the Monroe University JV baseball team delivered a walk-off single to cap off a four-run, ninth inning rally to defeat Citius Prep, 6-5, on Wednesday.

The Mustangs were down to its final out just three batters into the final inning. Freshman
Iancarlos Rodriguez led off the frame with a walk, but back-to-back outs put the comeback in doubt.

However, Monroe pieced together several quality at-bats, walking in runs three and four. After a pitching change by Citius Prep, a wild pitch scored the game-tying run before German-Nero recorded the lone hit of the inning to win it for the Mustangs.

The offense produced just four base knocks on the day, but ten walks kept the score within striking distance. Sophomore
Melvin Laracuente led the way with three free passes.

Errors allowed Monroe to chip away at its early deficit. A dropped third strike fielding error scored the first run of the game for the Mustangs before a steal attempt by Laracuente led to a throw away by Citius Prep's catcher, making the score 5-2.

The miscues by the visitors foreshadowed the dramatic ending as the Mustangs took advantage of the free passes given to them in the ninth.

Freshman
John Garcia was awarded the win after an eighth inning shutout. Freshman
Waldy Peralta impressed as the second arm out of the bullpen, hurling 3.1 shutout innings and striking out seven.

The Mustangs will host Paramount Academy in a doubleheader on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
