New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University JV baseball team dropped its Monday contest to Dominican University JV, 11-1.
The Chargers took a 3-0 lead in the first and never looked back. Freshman
Matthew DeFisher drove in the lone run of the game in the bottom half of the same inning as Dominican used strong pitching to keep the Mustangs at bay the rest of the way.
On the mound, sophomore
Jeremy Jimenez hurled 1.1 no-hit innings in relief. Offensively, sophomore
Josh Peralta collected two hits, with six other players making up the eight hits by the Mustangs.
Monroe was knocking on the door for most of the contest, but a big sixth inning by the Chargers put the deficit at seven runs. A three-run eighth then initiated the run-rule. Monroe did load the bases in the bottom half of the inning, but couldn't send anyone in as the game came to a close.
The Mustangs will head to the Bronx to take on Bronx Community College on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.

The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
