Viera, FL – The Monroe University softball team had another split doubleheader on Sunday to conclude its Florida trip, finishing the eight-game stretch in the Sunshine State at 3-5. The Mustangs lost to Williston State College, 15-1, before defeating Illinois Central College, 4-3.
In its win against Illinois Central, Monroe staved off a comeback from the Cougars. After going up 4-0, Illinois Central trailed by one heading into the last inning. Sophomore

Freshman
Zoey Zamora picked up the win after a four-run first put the Mustangs in front. Freshman
Georgia Wilson got the scoring, driving in two runs. Then, sophomore
Nathalie Mongrain recorded two more RBIs for the Mustangs to take a 4-0 lead.
After defeating Williston State on Saturday, the Tetons got their revenge by ending the contest by run-rule in the fifth inning. A ten-run outburst in the fourth put Monroe in a tough spot. Freshman
Lizbeth Zambrano and sophomore
Georgia Burr collected two hits in the game.
Monroe will head to West Virginia next for a four-game series against Potomac State College. A doubleheader on Saturday will kick off the stretch, with first pitch scheduled for noon.
