Baseball Earns Doubleheader Sweep Over Delaware Tech

Bel Air, MD – The Monroe University baseball team picked up its first two wins of the season during Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Delaware Technical Community College. Game one went Monroe's way, 6-2, before pitching a 3-0 shutout over the Roadrunners in game two.

It was a six-run fifth that put the Mustangs ahead in the first game, ultimately securing their first win of 2025.

A bases-loaded single by freshman Tai Vic Tromp got the scoring started. Freshman Ryan Marchina then collected three-RBIs on a bases-clearing double to left. Sophomore Anthony Fernandez then provided some offense on an RBI double of his own before freshman Matthew DeFisher singled in Fernandez on the next at-bat.

Freshman Victor Ceballos picked up the win after tossing a quality start. He allowed just two runs on four hits and struck out seven Roadrunners. Sophomore Emmanuel Ramos three two perfect innings in relief while also striking out four.

Game two went the way of the Mustangs thanks to a dazzling performance on the mound by freshman Kyle Mandirola. The Pennsylvania native earned the win by hurling six scoreless and allowing just three hits. The highlight for Mandirola was 11 strikeouts, which included eight swinging strikeouts.

The Mustangs gave Mandirola early run support, with freshman Dirso Melendez singling in freshman Marcus Mercado. A second run scored in the inning before a third was scored in the second inning courtesy of an RBI single by freshman Derek Lebron.

From there, Mandirola did the rest in a masterful performance for the freshman.

After 14 road games to kick off the season, Monroe will return to home on Saturday, March 1, to take on Paramount Academy in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Flowers Park.
