Softball Suffers Back-To-Back Losses To Open Georgia Trip

Columbus, GA – The Monroe University softball team suffered two losses to open a six-game weekend slate in Georgia on Friday. The Mustangs fell to Indian River State College, 13-1, before dropping their meeting to Gulf Coast State College, 7-0.

Against Indian River, the Mustangs fell behind from the get-go and couldn't recover. Freshmen Kelsea Bauer threw 2.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Game two saw Monroe battle into the fifth inning, but back-to-back solid innings by the Commodores led to a third consecutive loss. A 0-0 game well into the contest, Gulf Coast rattled off seven runs to close out the Mustangs.

Sophomores Maricela Colon, Gabrielle Gonzalez and Nathalie Mongrain each collected hits.

A tripleheader awaits the Mustangs on Saturday. They will take on Tallahassee Community College (11:00 am), Southeastern Illinois College (1:30 pm) and Roane State Community College (6:30 pm).
