New Rochelle, NY – The No. 13 Monroe University women's soccer team remained unbeaten on Friday, defeating Harford Community College, 6-1. Freshman
Wiktoria Mikrut was once again unstoppable on offense, scoring three goals and assisting on two others.
On a day where the sophomores for the Mustangs were honored pregame, it was a freshman that stood out to have her best career game. Mikrut secured her fourth hat trick of the season and third in past four games while also assisting on two goals, putting her point total at eight.
The Poland native scored 19 seconds into the contest off an assist from sophomores
Maiko Kikuchi and
Chloe Ribeiro. A 52
nd and 72
nd minute goal by Mikrut secured the hat trick and catapulted Monroe to an impressive 7-0-1 record.
While Harford offered an equalizer to Mikrut's first goal within a minute of the score, it was a smooth finish for the Mustangs as they split the halves with three goals in each. Freshmen
Julia Migacz and
Sara Dakdouka scored in the first half, while Kikuchi joined Mikrut's two goals in the second half.
All in all, the Mustangs fired off 26 shots and 15 on goal. Mikrut led the way with 12 shots, while Dakdouka had six. Freshmen
Victoria Ferreira and
Magdalena Syrek once again split time in goal, with Ferreira earning the win.
Monroe will take on Caldwell University JV on Tuesday at 10:00 am in its next matchup.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
