Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Jordan Sanders Leads No. 25 Men's Basketball To 94-88 Win Over Niagara

New Rochelle, NY – Sophomore Jordan Sanders of the No. 25 Monroe University men's basketball team went a perfect 8-for-8 from the field, including 6-for-6 from deep, to lead the Mustangs to a 94-88 victory over Niagara County Community College on Saturday.

Sanders's only missed shot of the game came at the charity stripe as the Georgia native made the Thunderwolves pay each time he was left enough space. He was joined in double-digits by fellow sophomores Ryan Williams Jr. (18) and Hassan Washington (14).

Freshman Riley Dunn had a breakout performance with 13 points, seven boards and three blocks, while freshman Eric Mejia dished out 12 assists on the night.

The Mustangs let Niagara creep around in the first half, only heading into half up by two. But an 8-0 run to start the second half, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Sanders, gave Monroe some separation.

Another three from Sanders, which help account for his 21 second half points, put Monroe up 13 — its largest lead of the half. But the Thunderwolves continued to hang around, cutting it to a 73-71 game with just over eight minutes to go.

Another 8-0 run fueled by Sanders put the Mustangs back up ten with five minutes to go. And while Niagara cut it to four late, they never came within a possession from tying the game as the Mustangs knocked down their free throws.

The win marked the 14th of the season for Monroe and capped off a successful night for the Mustangs on day one of the Monroe Mixer. They will look to close out a 2-0 weekend against Raritan Valley Community College on Sunday at 4:00 pm.
