NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., September 29, 2024 – Playing for the first time in over two weeks, the Monroe University Mustangs women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to No. 11 Monroe Community College on Sunday at Skidelsky Field. The Mustangs fall to 5-3 overall, while the Tribunes improve to 8-0-1.
After a scoreless first half, the Tribunes scored the only goal of the game early on in the second frame. Olivia Paterniti scored in the 48th minute, providing what proved to be the game-winner for the Tribunes on the day.
Beatrice Vitaletti played well in net for the Mustangs on Saturday, making a season-high 10 saves in the game, but allowing the only goal of the game to shoulder the loss. Tribunes keeper Clare Boesel made seven saves in the shutout victory.
Katherine Bean-Rosario led the Mustangs with five shot attempts, putting three on net in the game. Miko Kikuchi,
Carmen Santamaria,
Julia Meyer and
Melisa Guarin each attempted two shots on Sunday.
The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Friday, Oct. 4, when they host Harcum College for another in-district matchup at Skidelsky Field. Friday's matchup is set to begin at 12 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
