HARRISBURG, Pa., September 27, 2024 – The Monroe University Mustangs women's volleyball team got its weekend road trip started on the right foot Friday evening, as the Mustangs defeated Harrisburg Area Community College in three sets. The Mustangs improve to 12-4 overall with the win, while the Hawks fall to 6-6.
The Mustangs hit better and better as the night went on. A .103 hitting percentage helped them to a 25-16 win in the opening set. They then hit .212 in a 25-15 win in the second stanza. The third frame then saw Monroe hit at an incredibly efficient .429 clip en route to another 25-16 win to close out the match.
Jelena Peric threw down nine kills with a .471 hitting percentage, adding four digs and two blocks.
Fabiana Lopez was right behind with eight kills to go with seven digs and three aces.
Madison Smith matched her with eight kills, adding four digs and two aces of her own.
Flavia Pecora led the Mustangs with 14 digs while also making two blocks and hitting .500 with four kills on six swings.
Mileyshka Melendez handed out 27 assists while serving up three aces and picking up three digs.
Part 2 of Monroe's weekend trip takes place tomorrow in McHenry, Md., with a tri-match at Garrett College. The Mustangs take on Pennsylvania Highlands Community College on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m., followed by a match against host Garrett at 12 p.m.
