No. 17 Men's Basketball's Win Streak Ends At Ten With Loss To Miami Dade

Fort Myers, FL – The No. 17 Monroe University men's basketball team suffered its first loss since November 9 with a 90-65 loss to Miami Dade College. Sophomore Devere Palmer Jr., who was reinserted into the starting lineup, recorded a double-double in the loss.

Scoring was at a premium for the Mustangs as they put up a season-low point total. Palmer Jr. led the way with 21 points and ten rebounds, while sophomores Hassan Washington and Jordan Sanders contributed 16 and 14 points, respectively. The next highest scorer was at six points.

Fourteen turnovers did Monroe in as they could never gain much momentum. The Mustangs led the contest at the 13:05 mark after a dunk from Washington, but were outscored 28-11 the remainder of the half to fall behind 44-29.

Monroe outshot the Sharks in the second half (47.8% to 46.7%) and got off to a thunderous start to the half with a dunk from Washington. But once again, turnovers cost the Mustangs as they committed nine of their 14 in the latter half of action.

A 5-0 run cut the deficit to ten — highlighted by a three-pointer by Sanders. But Miami Dade retook a commanding lead in flash with a quick 13-0 run to lead by 23.

Monroe's win streak ends at ten games, and it will search to rebound in a big way when it takes on No. 13 Daytona State College on Monday, December 16 at 6:00 pm in Daytona Beach, FL.
