Conshohocken, PA – The Monroe University women's soccer team advanced in the East District Tournament on Saturday evening, defeating Harcum College, 3-0, at the Proving Grounds.
Freshmen
Maiko Kikuchi and
Katherine Bean-Rosario set the tone early by scoring within a minute of one another. Kikuchi scored in the 11th minute, while Bean-Rosario doubled the lead with her 13
th goal of the season at the 11:19 mark.
A 2-0 lead is a dangerous lead to hold in soccer, but the Mustangs remained unfazed as freshman
Beatrice Vitaletti collected a clean sheet. Freshman
Valentina Carmona padded the lead with a third goal in the 62nd minute, helping the Mustangs coast to victory.
Like their previous matchup against Harcum, the shot totals were close, but Monroe was able to capitalize on more of its chances. Both teams had ten shots, with six of them being on goal, but Vitaletti stayed poised for six saves as opposed to Harcum's three.
Kikuchi paced the Mustangs with three shots, with all three being on target.
The Mustangs advance to the semi-finals of the East District Tournament and will head to Rochester, NY to take on Monroe Community College on Tuesday, November 5.
