Scranton, PA – The Monroe University football team suffered a 44-13 loss to No. 11 Lackawanna College on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons jumped ahead 14-0 on the Mustangs in the first quarter and never looked back. While the visitors hung around through the air with just a –41 passing yard margin, Lackwanna dominated the ground game to take firm control of the contest.
Freshman Donovan Brown paced the Mustangs with 90 receiving yards on four catches.
The Mustangs fell behind 24-0 before finding pay dirt with 4:41 remaining in the first half. Freshman Raeden Oliver connected with fellow freshman Jashaun Amin for 24 yards to make it a 24-6 ball game.
Brown then found the end zone on a 63-yard reception in the third quarter to conclude the scoring for Monroe.
Defensively, redshirt sophomore Anthonio Beckford led the team with five total tackles, including two for a loss of yards. Sophomore Ezekiel Ashiagbor and freshman Jordan Byron each intercepted the Falcons on the day.
Monroe falls to below .500 with the loss, but will look to right the ship Saturday, October 12, when it hosts Community Christian College (MI) at 1:00 pm.
