Garden City, NY – The Monroe University women's volleyball team ended its regular season on a high note on Tuesday evening, defeating undefeated Nassau Community College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-16).
The Mustangs made easy work of the undefeated Lions on the road. They led in every statistical category on the night, including a 38-20 advantage in kills. Freshman
Jelena Peric continued her hot streak with a 16 kill night.
Peric had just four kills in set one, but came up with the most important one to secure the set.
In set two, two separate six-point runs by each side resulted in an 8-6 advantage for the Lions early. But a five-point run followed by a late seven-point run from the Mustangs allowed them to take firm control of the set and win comfortably on a service error.
Early runs helped Monroe dictate the third set. And while the Lions put together a solid scoring stretch late, it wasn't enough to stop Monroe from securing win number 22 on the year.
Postseason play awaits the Mustangs on November 2. They will travel to Scranton, PA, to take part in the Region 19 Division II Women's Volleyball Championship Semifinals.
