Bel Air, MD – Late goals from freshmen
Maiko Kikuchi and
Katherine Bean-Rosario fueled the Monroe University women's soccer team's 3-2 comeback victory at Harford Community College on Friday afternoon.
Kikuchi got the scoring started in the 44th minute, earning the Mustangs the lead as the teams headed into the locker rooms. But two quick goals to start the half from the Fighting Owls put the visitors in a tough hole.
Enter Kikuchi once again, who scored on a penalty kick to tie the game at two. Then, Bean-Rosario scored goal number 12 on the year in the 85th minute to stun Harford.
Monroe attempted 31 shots on the day, including 17 on target. Kikuchi led the way with a whopping ten shots, while freshman
Carmen Santamaria was not far behind with nine attempts.
The Mustangs finished the season at 8-3-1 and will await their opponent for the 2024 NJCAA Region 20 Women's Soccer Tournament in Rockville, MD.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
