New Rochelle, NY – The Monroe University women's soccer team defended home field on Sophomore Day as it defeated Felician University JV, 5-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Skidelsky Field.
Prior to the match, the Mustangs honored its seven sophomores.
It was a comfortable victory for Monroe as it built up a 4-0 lead before ceding a goal to the Golden Falcons. Sophomore
Katherine Neves got the scoring started in the 10th minute on a beautiful top shelf goal, her 11th of the season.
Freshman
Katherine Bean-Rosario then registered her 11th goal of the season to make it 2-0.
Emerging from the first half up 2-0, freshman
Leni Fohrer doubled the Mustang lead herself with goals in the 47th and 62nd minute. While the Golden Falcons were able to get on the board and spoil the clean sheet a few minutes later, Monroe pushed it back to a four-goal lead.
Freshman
Valentina Carmona scored her first career goal in the 85th minute to put the Mustangs up 5-1 for good.
Bean-Rosario paced the team with six shots, which included five on goal.
The Mustangs will conclude their regular season on Friday, October 18, at Harford Community College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
