New Rochelle, NY – Behind a four-goal second half, the Monroe University women's soccer team prevailed against Caldwell University JV on Friday afternoon, 5-0, at Skidelsky Field.
Freshman Katherine Bean-Rosario led the way with two goals on the day. Both freshman Maiko Kikuchi and Leni Fohrer added two assists to their ledger in the dominant showing over the Cougars.
It took nearly the entire first half for the Mustangs to get going, but they finally broke through in the 42nd minute courtesy of Bean-Rosario. Kikuchi assisted on the score.
Monroe shifted into a new gear at the start of the second half, scoring three goals in the span of six minutes. Sophomore Katherine Neves got the scoring started in the 52nd minute before Kikuchi and Bean-Rosario added to the stretch.
To cap the scoring off, sophomore Emily Oliver delivered a goal in the 68th minute.
Freshmen Beatrice Vitaletti and Karolina Placek combined for the clean sheet, with Vitaletti earning the victory after logging just over 80 minutes of action.
All in all, the Mustangs compiled 17 shots against Caldwell JV, ten of which being on goal.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Wednesday, October 16, against Felician University JV at 1:00 pm at Skidelsky Field for the final home game of the season.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE UNIVERSITY
The athletic program at Monroe University encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as the Monroe University marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
