BEL AIR, Md., September 3, 2023 – An unblemished start to the 2023 campaign continued on Sunday for the No. 8-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team, as the Mustangs defeated Harford Community College, 3-0, at Harford Stadium. The Mustangs improve to 3-0 on the season with the shutout victory, while the Fighting Owls take their first loss and fall to 2-1-1.
 
Sunday's score does not properly reflect Monroe's domination in time of possession, as the Mustangs outshot the Fighting Owls, 32-1, in the win, including 20 shots on goal to just one for Harford. Harford goalkeeper Evie Heinlein managed to make 17 stops in the game, but yielded three goals to take the loss. Monroe's Natalie Dobler earned her first shutout of the season with one save to improve to 3-0.
 
The Mustangs finally broke through in the 37th minute when Angel Fowler found Julia Meyer for the first goal of the game, eventually giving Monroe a 1-0 lead at the half.
 
Things picked back up at '60 when Katherine Neves set up Helida Gomes for Monroe's second goal of the game. In the 79th minute, Fowler capped off the 3-0 win with her first of the season off an assist from Louise Featherstone.
 
The Mustangs take the next week off before taking a trip down to Bryn Mawr, Pa., on Monday, Sept. 11. That game is set to kick off at 4 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
