Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 7 Monroe Returns to Action with Road Victory at Harcum

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA., September 11, 2023 – After just over a week off, the No. 7-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team kept its unbeaten season going with a 4-1 victory over Harcum College on Monday at The Proving Grounds. The Mustangs improve to 4-0 on the season with the win, while the Bears fall to 2-1-1.

The Mustangs did not need long to get the scoring going in Monday's matchup. In the fourth minute, Emily Mackie found the ball right in front of the keeper off an assist from Paula Campos and managed to chip it in to give the Mustangs a quick 1-0 lead. Monroe then doubled the lead in the 14th minute. Katherine Neves led the attack down the field and then fed Samara Dullabh with an angle to get past the defense, leaving her to beat the keeper one-on-one from the left wing to put the Mustangs ahead, 2-0.

Monroe's third goal of the day was a fun one. Off a throw in, Neves chipped the ball over Harcum's aggressive keeper and nearly slow-bounced it into the net, but she put it off the post. The ball immediately found Katie Neilson, who tipped it in for the score to make it 3-0 Monroe in the 27th minute. The Mustangs ultimately took that three-goal lead into the halftime break.

The Mustangs added to their lead early in the second half. In the 56th minute, Dullabh set up Julia Meyer for a score, expanding Monroe's lead to 4-0. Harcum managed to get on the board after a foul in the box offered the Bears a penalty-kick opportunity. Genesis Sanchez was good on her attempt, cutting Monroe's lead to 4-1 at 64'.

Natalie Dobler earned her fourth victory in net for the Mustangs after 45 scoreless minutes in net. She is yet to allow a goal this season. Maria Alfaro took the loss in net for the Bears after yielding three first-half goals.

With two assists in the win, Neves improved her team lead with six helpers on the season. Dullabh took over the team's scoring lead with her fourth goal of the year. Mackie and Neilson each tallied their first scores of the season in Monday's victory.

The Mustangs outshot their hosts, 16-4, on Monday, including a 10-1 edge in shots on goal. They also earned five corner kicks to just two for Harcum.

Monroe's only two home games on the regular-season schedule are set for this coming weekend. They open the weekend on Friday, Sept. 15, when they welcome Lake Tahoe Community College of the CCCAA to Skidelsky Field for an 11 a.m. matchup. The Mustangs then host Bryant & Stratton College (Rochester) of the USCAA in New Rochelle on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m.
