MELBOURNE, Fla., September 28, 2023 – It was an anticlimactic result, but a significant one nonetheless, as the No. 11 Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw at No. 5 Eastern Florida State College Thursday evening at Orlando Health Stadium. The stalemate moves the Mustangs to 6-1-1 overall, while the Titans go to 5-1-1 on the season.
Â
Thursday's matchup saw just 14 total shot attempts, only four of which went on goal. Monroe goalkeeper
Natalie Dobler earned her second shutout of the season with a pair of saves, while Titans goalie Lauren Pastor matched her with two stops and no goals allowed.
Â
The only shot on goal in the first half was taken by Monroe's
Natali Maymon, whose first shot of the season in her debut was saved by Eastern Florida State's keeper.
Cayla Fletcher put one on net early in the second half, but was unable to get it across the line. The Titans had their first scoring opportunity in the 67th minute, but Dobler shut it down. Dobler made one more stop in the 78th minute to keep the match scoreless.
Â
Thursday's defensive battle began a long weekend in Florida for the Mustangs, who now get the next two days off before getting back to work on Sunday, Oct. 1. Monroe will visit No. 4 Daytona State College to cap off the weekend, with Sunday's matchup kicking off at 6 p.m.
