NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., September 15, 2023 – Louise Featherstone had the best game of her Mustang career so far on Friday, as her four-goal effort powered the No. 7-ranked Monroe College women's soccer team to a 5-0 shutout victory over Lake Tahoe Community College in Monroe's home opener at Skidelsky Field. The Mustangs remain unbeaten and improve to 5-0 with the win.
 
The Mustangs wasted no time getting on the board Friday morning. Right off the opening kick, the Mustangs moved into the offensive third. Katherine Neves took the ball into the left end of the box and fired toward the goal. Lake Tahoe's goalie made a diving stop, but Featherstone was right there to clean it up, scoring just 41 seconds into the match to give Monroe a quick 1-0 lead.
 
Things slowed down from there, with the Mustangs not getting back on the board again until the 28th minute. Anna Pires led Samara Dullabh into the left corner of the box, where she sent a cross over to Neves near the left post. Neves then flipped it past the keeper into the right corner of the net, pushing Monroe's lead to 2-0.
 
10 minutes later, the Mustangs got on the board again with another impressive score. Neves found Featherstone just outside the top of the box, where she turned and fired with her left foot just under the crossbar to make it a 3-0 game at 38'.
 
Featherstone completed the first-half hat trick in the 42nd minute. Paula Campos sent a long cross from midfield into the box, setting up Featherstone to beat the keeper to the left of the net for her third of the day, giving Monroe a 4-0 edge heading into halftime.
 
Featherstone struck yet again in the 73rd minute of the game. After a few crosses were blocked about 25 yards from the goal, Featherstone once again found the ball and fired a long line drive into the back of the net near the left corner, potting her fourth of the day to extend Monroe's lead to 5-0.
 
Natalie Dobler got the start and earned her fifth win of the season after making one save without a goal allowed in the first half. Lucia Martin was challenged more when she took over in the second half, but she made three saves while preserving the shutout for Monroe. Lake Tahoe starter Jazmine Lopez took the loss after yielding three goals with three saves in 59:02 between the pipes.
 
Featherstone totaled eight points with her four goals in the win. Neves had a four-point day with a goal and two assists. The Mustangs outshot the Coyotes, 14-10, with a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal in the game. Monroe also earned six corner kicks, while Lake Tahoe had three.
 
The Mustangs' game against Bryant & Stratton College (Rochester) that had been scheduled for this Sunday, Sept. 17, has been canceled. Therefore, the Mustangs will play next on Thursday, Sept. 21, when they take a short trip to Newark, N.J., to take on Essex County College. Thursday's matchup is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 28 teams competing across nine sports. There are 20 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
