DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., September 20, 2022 – Facing a stiff challenge against the defending NJCAA Div. I Women's Soccer Champions, the No. 6-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 final to No. 1 Eastern Florida State College on Tuesday at Daytona State College. The Mustangs fall to 4-2-1 overall with the loss, while the Titans remain unbeaten at 6-0-0.
The Titans took an early lead on a goal by Ana Alvarez in the 18th minute, doubling the lead when Laura Cetina scored in the 28th minute. Monroe got on the board in the 34th minute when Sabrina Bastos Da Silva netted her fifth goal of the year, but Cetina scored again for the Titans with just a few seconds left in the half to make it a 3-1 match at the half. Nancy Almanza added one more goal for Eastern Florida State with just over four minutes to play, reaching the eventual final score of 4-1.
Stephanie Hodgson made three saves but allowed four goals to fall to 4-2-1 on the season for Monroe. Gabriella Tobar improved to 1-0 after making three stops and yielding one score for the Titans.
Bastos Da Silva attempted seven shots in the game, putting three of them on net while getting one past the keeper.

The Mustangs will look to get back on track on Thursday, Sept. 22, when they take on host, and No. 13-ranked Daytona State. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
