NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., April 18, 2022 – The Monroe College Mustangs softball team shouldered a pair of losses to Div. III No. 6 Suffolk County Community College on Monday at Flowers Park. The Sharks won Game 1, 19-4, before taking Game 2, 14-0.

GAME 1: Suffolk 19, Monroe 4 (5 INN)
The Sharks got off to a quick start in Monday's opener, putting 16 runs on the board in the first two frames. The Mustangs got two back in the home half of the second, but the Sharks scored another three runs in the third and fourth innings. Monroe picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough to extend the game.

Gianna Postiglione got the win for Suffolk in Game 1 to improve to 7-1 on the year. Monroe's
Shania Thomas took the loss to fall to 0-2.

Navaeh Gaynor went 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a double in Monday's first game.
Camryn Brooks hit 1-for-2 with a run.
Mya Jack hit a double and scored once in a 1-for-3 outing.

GAME 2: Suffolk 14, Monroe 0 (5 INN)
Game 2 went the same way as Game 1. The Sharks jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two frames. The visitors then put six runs on the board in the fourth to reach the eventual final score of 14-0.

Postiglione posted another complete-game victory for the Sharks to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Hilda Sanchez shouldered the loss for Monroe.

The Mustangs will look to turn it around on Saturday, April 23, when they visit Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick, R.I. Game 1 is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 14 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
