No. 9 Monroe Mustangs Women’s Soccer Wraps up Regular Season with Shutout at SUNY Ulster

STONE RIDGE, N.Y., October 15, 2022 – In the final contest of the 2022 regular season, the No. 9-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team turned in another dominant performance with a 9-0 shutout victory over SUNY Ulster on Saturday. The Mustangs improve to 7-2-2 overall with the win, while the Senators drop to 5-4-1.
 
The Mustangs got on the board early and often in Saturday's win. Sabrina Bastos Da Silva scored in the fourth minute to get the scoring started, and then Karaline Gray netted her first of the season to make it a 2-0 game at 10'. Louise Featherstone potted one at 13' before Luci Schroder added one of her own in the 16th minute to push the lead to four. Hanna Dormeyer made it 5-0 in the 42nd minute to send Monroe to the half with a five-goal advantage.
 
Angel Fowler picked things up in the second half with a goal at 48'. Bastos Da Silva added her second of the day in the 56th minute to make it a 7-0 game. Hannah Light picked up her first goal of the year at 71:30, and then Samara Dullabh capped things off with a goal in the 84th minute for a nine-goal edge.
 
Stephanie Hodgson played just over 80 minutes in net to earn the win and improve to 7-2-2, but she did not face a shot in the game. Lucia Martin played the final 9:12 and made one stop. Sierra Barbiani took the loss for the Senators.
 
Bastos Da Silva totaled five points on two goals and an assist in the win. Gray and Schroder each scored once and provided two assists for matching four-point days. Featherstone picked up three points with a goal and a helper. Ina Turesson and Manuela Baptista Filipe each had an assist as well.
 
The Mustangs outshot the Senators, 37-1, including a 21-1 advantage in shots on goal. Monroe also had all eight of the game's corner kicks.
 
Monroe will be in action next on Saturday, Oct. 29, when they compete in the quarterfinals of the Region 20 Championship Tournament. Information about the postseason matchup will be announced soon.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 35 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well the Monroe College marching band and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 11 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
