NEWTON, N.J., October 11, 2022 – Sabrina Bastos Da Silva scored four times and totaled nine points in a dominant 10-1 victory for the No. 9-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team at Sussex County Community College Tuesday afternoon. The Mustangs improve to 6-2-2 overall with the win, while the Skylanders drop to 4-4.
Bastos Da Silva did all that damage despite playing just 36 of the match's 90 minutes on Tuesday. Her four goals and an assist gave her a season-high nine points in the win.
The Mustangs had their foot on the gas from start to finish in this one. They tallied five goals in the first 22 minutes of the game before putting another five in the next in the second half.
Luci Schroder picked up Monroe's first two goals at 4' and 15' for an early 2-0 edge. Bastos Da Silva then tallied the next two, just 80 seconds apart from each other at 18:29 and 19:48.
Erin Keyt added one more for the Mustangs in the 22nd minute before things quieted down for the rest of the half, sending the game to the break with Monroe ahead, 5-0.
Bastos Da Silva once again scored two straight early in the second half with goals at 48' and 54' to make it a 7-0 score.
Daniela De Souza then got on the board at 61' followed shortly after by a
Louise Featherstone goal in the 63rd minute. The Skylanders were able to get one in the 74th minute from Sophie Taylor, but
Samara Dullabh potted one more for the Mustangs at 84' to wrap up the victory.
With two goals and three assists, Schroder totaled seven points in Tuesday's victory. Keyt added a pair of assists to her score for a four-point afternoon. The Mustangs also got assists from
Hinako Aoki,
Natali Maymon,
Karaline Gray,
Chrissie Burke and
Faith Lemmert in the game.
Stephanie Hodgson improved to 6-2-2 on the season with the win. Nadeschka Gaberell took the loss for the Skylanders, allowing 10 goals while making eight saves.
Monroe outshot the Skylanders, 23-3, in the win, including an 18-1 edge in shots on goal. Monroe also had seven corner kicks compared to just two for Sussex County.
The Mustangs have one regular-season contest remaining on the schedule with a newly added matchup at SUNY Ulster on Saturday, Oct. 15. The match up in Stone Ridge, N.Y. will kick off at 10 a.m.
