ROCKVILLE, Md., September 4, 2021 – After falling in last weekend's season opener against No. 2 Salt Lake Community College, the No. 10-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team bounced back with a vengeance, defeating Montgomery College by a score of 11-0 Saturday evening. The Mustangs improve to 1-1 on the year, while the Raptors drop to 1-1.

The Mustangs piled it on Saturday evening. Luana Grabias scored the opening goal, which proved to be the game-winner, in the 14th minute. Nyah Hood then scored back-to-back goals, eventually sending the game to the half with a 3-0 score.

Monroe exploded in the second half. Sydoney Clarke netted her first of the year five minutes into the new frame, then Yeymily Conde netted one off an assist from Angela Hernandez five minutes later. Mayra de Lima made it 6-0 in the 60th minute. Grabias followed in the 75th minute with her second of the day, and then assisted goals by both Erin Keyt and Hailey Flores. Julia Howard and Regina Fiabema closed out the game with a goal apiece to wrap up the 11-0 conquest.

Grabias finished with six points in the win with her two goals and two assists. Hood's two goals were the first two of her career with the Mustangs.

Stefane Rosa was gifted her first shutout of the season in her first start of the year, as the defense did not allow a shot on goal, giving her a 1-0 record to start the season. Femke Hofkamp took the loss for Montgomery after giving up 10 goals and making 12 saves.

The Mustangs outshot the Raptors, 60-1, putting 29 shots on goal without allowing one. They also held a 1-0 edge in corner kicks.

Monroe gets back to work on Saturday, Sept. 11, when they visit Suffolk County Community College in Selden, N.Y. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
