Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hood Nets Game-Winner as No. 8 Monroe Mustangs Women’s Soccer Grabs Double OT Victory over Coffeyville

COFFEYVILLE, Kan., September 24, 2021 – The Mustangs were not settling for a second draw on their trip to Kansas, and Nyah Hood made sure of it, as she netted the double-overtime game-winner on Friday to lift the No. 8-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Coffeyville Community College. The Mustangs improve to 5-1-1 with the win, while the Ravens fall to 5-4 overall.

The first 90 minutes of the game ended with a 1-1 score, sending the Mustangs into their second overtime game of the week. After the first overtime period finished without a result, Monroe and Coffeyville were set for 10 more minutes of play. In the 104th minute, Hood stole it from the left back and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, beating her to her left and putting it into the back of the net to secure the win.

The Mustangs got the early jump on the Ravens in Friday's contest when Julia Howard scored just 3:01 into the game off an assist by Erin Keyt. They held that lead until the 35th minute, when Coffeyville equaled the score at 1-1 after an unexpected bounce in the box put the defense out of position, giving the Ravens a 2-on-1 opportunity with the goalkeeper.

Goalkeeper Stefane Rosa saw her shutout streak come to an end after 336:10, but still made four saves to earn the victory and improve to 5-0-1 on the season.

The Mustangs didn't make things easier for themselves next weekend, as they take another trip, this time down to Florida. They will play twice at Eastern Florida State College in Cocoa, Fla., starting the weekend on Friday, Oct. 1, with a 5 p.m. matchup against No. 15 Daytona State College. The Mustangs then take on No. 3 Eastern Florida State College on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m.
