Defensive Battle Between No. 8 Monroe Mustangs Women’s Soccer and No. 16 Cowley Results in Scoreless Draw

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan., September 22, 2021 – In a battle between a pair of nationally ranked team down in Kansas, the No. 8-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team and No. 16-ranked Cowley College put on a defensive show, ultimately resulting in a 0-0 stalemate after 110 minutes Wednesday evening. The Mustangs move to 4-1-1 overall with the draw, while the Tigers go to 5-0-1.
 
The game was played fairly evenly throughout, seeing each team get their chances and both goalies stepped up when needed to keep the other team off the board. The Mustangs led in shots, 15-10, but the Tigers held the edge in shots on goal, 9-7. Corner kicks were also even in the game at 5-5.
 
Stefane Rosa moves to 4-0-1 on the year after making a season-high nine saves in the tie. The reigning NJCAA Div. I Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week earns her third straight shutout and fourth of the season. Tigers goalkeeper Makayla Farquharson stopped seven shots in goal for the home team.
 
Luana Grabias got the most chances for the Mustangs, firing off seven shots and putting three of them on goal. Nyah Hood put both of her opportunities on net, while Sydoney Clarke put one of her three shots on target.
 
The Mustangs will continue their Kansas trip on Friday, Sept. 24, when they visit Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kan. Friday's match is set to kick off at 2 p.m. EST.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 39 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 18 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
