ROCHESTER, N.Y., August 27, 2021 – Playing for the first time in nearly two years, the No. 8-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team took on last season's national runner-up, No. 2 Salt Lake Community College, to open the 2021 campaign. The neutral-site contest at Monroe Community College in Rochester resulted in a 4-0 victory for the Bruins.
The Mustangs attempted 11 shots in the contest, but unfortunately could not hit the back of the net in the game. Freshman goalkeeper
Za'Khari Turner made seven saves in her debut in net for Monroe, but shouldered the loss to fall to 0-1.
The Mustangs will look to turn things around on Sunday, Aug. 29, when they take on their hosts for the weekend, No. 10 Monroe Community College. Sunday's matchup is set to kick off at 12 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 39 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 18 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
