NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., November 8, 2021 –
Richie Guillaume impressed in his debut with his first double-double, as the Monroe College Mustang JV men's basketball team opened the 2021-22 campaign in front of the home crowd at the Monroe Athletic Complex on Monday. The Mustangs fell to Vision Academy, 85-62, starting the year 0-1, while Vision gets started at 1-0.

The Mustangs got off to a strong start, using a 7-2 run early on to take a 12-7 advantage with 14:52 still left to play in the half. Monroe's 15-10 lead soon became a 22-16 deficit after Vision went on a 12-1 run. Vision later scored eight straight to take a 30-21 edge with 3:37 left on the clock. The visitors then closed out the half with a 13-4 run, going into the break with a 43-25 lead over the Mustangs.

Guillaume led the Mustangs with 13 points and six rebounds through the first 20 minutes.
Jahel Ramsey had six points.
Travis Huggins added five rebounds, while
Emmanuel Elayo led the team with two steals.

Vision's lead reached 25 points early in the second half at 50-25, but the Mustangs got back within 19 at 53-34 with 14:31 on the clock. Vision pushed its lead to 23 at 67-44 with 7:05 left to play, but the Mustangs began to turn up the heat, going on an 11-2 run to get back within 14 at 69-55 with 4:43 to go. Isaiah Hanley had Monroe back within 14. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Mustangs got, as Vision scored 11 of the final 13 points to pick up the 85-62 win.

Guillaume had a huge game for the Mustangs, finishing with 24 points and 16 rebounds for his first double-double, adding two assists and a steal to a great night. Ramsey tallied 17 points with three boards. Klouda picked up 11 points off the bench. Hanley finished with five points, eight rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists.

The Mustangs will play next on Wednesday, Nov. 17, when they host 238 Academy at the MAC. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 39 teams competing across nine sports. There are 21 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, the Monroe College marching band, and the newly added esports and men's volleyball programs, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 18 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
