Monroe Mustangs JV Men’s Basketball Earns Bounce-Back Victory over Harcum JV

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., February 8, 2020 – After suffering a home loss Friday evening, the Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball team bounced back in a big way, defeating Harcum College JV on Saturday, 82-56, at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Mustangs improve to 9-13 overall with the win.
 
Saturday's matchup opened up with some back-and-forth scoring, reaching a 14-14 stalemate with 12:11 left in the first half. Monroe then went on a 12-2 run to go up, 26-16, with 5:04 left in the half. Monroe's lead reached 14 points when Jai Redd hit a layup to make it a 32-18 game with 1:58 to go. The Mustangs turned up the heat in the final minute, adding eight more points before the buzzer to take a 42-23 lead into the break.
 
Erizander Laureano led the Mustangs with 10 points at the half, adding four assists. Redd picked up nine points off the bench. Deandre Hayes scored two points, but dished out a team-high eight assists. Jedidiah Ashton added eight points and four rebounds.
 
An 8-0 run by the Mustangs early in the second frame put Monroe up, 52-26, with 15:38 on the clock. The Mustangs continued to hang on to a big advantage, leading 66-40 after a three by Onterio Miller with 8:21 remaining. A layup by Redd that capped off a 7-0 run pushed Monroe's lead to 30 points at 70-40 with 6:35 to play. The Bears scored the final nine points of Saturday's contest, but the Mustangs held on for a 26-point victory.
 
Ashton finished with a team-high 17 points in the game, adding seven rebounds. Laureano finished with 12 points and four assists. Redd tallied 11 points in the win. Keniah Lloyd pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds, while Hayes passed out 12 assists. Onterio Miller totaled eight points and six boards to go with three steals. Luis Quinones contributed eight points, four rebounds and five steals.
 
The Mustangs get back to American Independent Post Grad and Collegiate Conference (AIPGCC) action on Monday, Feb. 10, when they visit College of Mount Saint Vincent JV in Riverdale, N.Y. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
