Monroe Mustangs Women’s Basketball Takes Down ASA on the Road to Clinch Region XV Title

BROOKLYN, N.Y., February 11, 2020 – In the final Region XV contest of the season, the Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball team got the job done on the road at Achievement First High School on Tuesday, defeating ASA College, 71-60, to claim the 2020 Region XV Championship. The Mustangs also improve to 16-11 overall and finish 2-0 in Region XV, while ASA falls to 6-14 and 0-2.
 
Cheyenne Talbot led the way for Monroe with 20 points in the win, adding seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Devon Adams was next with 16 points, narrowly missing a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds. Maya Crimes picked up 11 points and eight boards. Daja Wentz totaled 12 points off the bench, adding a team-high three steals. Taylor Holmes pulled down nine boards off the bench to match Adams' team lead.
 
Saturday's contest against Harcum College has been canceled, so barring a newly scheduled game, the Mustangs are scheduled to play next on Tuesday, Feb. 18, when they close out a doubleheader against County College of Morris at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
