NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., January 18, 2020 – In their first game of the 2020 Monroe College MLK Classic, the Monroe Mustangs men's basketball team downed the Niagara County Community College Thunder Wolves, 94-82, on Saturday evening at the Monroe Athletic Complex.

The Mustangs move to 14-7 overall with the win, pushing their home winning streak to nine straight games this season.

Sophomore
Juan Felix Rodriguez led all scorers with 28 points, including a 10-of-16 effort from the field, along with five rebound and five assists. He was one of four Mustangs in double figures as classmate
Zion Styles posted 23 points, knocking down three-of-six from three-point range to go with seven rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.

Freshman
Luis Herrera totaled 14 points, a season-high six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Sophomore
Elijah Mitchell finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals. Freshman
Julio Pascual dialed in eight points, five rebounds, and a massive career-high four blocks.

As a team, the Mustangs owned the glass, outrebounding Niagara 42-to-31 in the contest. The Mustangs also shot over 50 percent (53.8 %) for the third straight contest, connecting on 35-of-65 from the field.

Up next, the Mustangs host Erie Community College in the finale of the MLK Classic on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 4 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex.

ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
