NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., January 14, 2020 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the New Year on Tuesday evening, falling to SUNY Sullivan at home, 74-67.
The lost snaps the team's four-game win streak, dropping the Mustangs to 9-9 on the season.
Despite the outcome, three Mustangs found themselves in double figures with sophomore
India Keene leading the way with a near triple-double of 17 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds. Freshman
Cheyenne Talbot finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and two assists.
Maya Crimes had 13 points and five rebounds.
ToniRenee Blanford added eight points, three rebounds, and a pair of assists.
Devon Adams tallied five points and nine rebounds while
Daja Wentz and Ineysiah Surrel each netted four points apiece.
Sullivan outshot Monroe in the contest 42.1 percent to 38.4 percent, but the Mustangs owned the rebounding battle, outrebounding the Generals 44 to 42 in the contest.
The Mustangs are back in action this weekend, hosting the annual Monroe College MLK Classic at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Monroe takes on Niagara County Community College on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 6:00 p.m. and close out the weekend on Sunday against Erie Community College at 6 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
