Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Grabias’ Early Score, Rosa’s Shutout Lift No. 1 Monroe Mustangs Women’s Soccer over Cerritos

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., September 22, 2019Luana Grabias scored early, and Stefane Rosa held strong in net for 90 minutes, lifting the No. 1-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cerritos College Saturday evening at Skidelsky Field at Flowers Park. The Mustangs remain unbeaten at 6-0 with the win, while the Falcons fall to 2-3-1.

Grabias set the stage early in Saturday's contest, scoring at the 2:58 mark on the very first shot of the game to give the Mustangs a very early 1-0 advantage. Isabelle Andrea Tola provided the assist on the score. Despite a total of 36 shots and 16 shots on goal after that, Grabias' goal was the only shot to make it to the back of the net.

Rosa had arguably her best game as a Mustang on Saturday, stopping a season-high nine shots for her fourth shutout of the season, improving her record to 6-0. To date, she has allowed just three goals in 540 minutes in net this year.

The Falcons finished with a 20-17 edge in shots in the game, including a 9-8 margin in shots on goal. Cerritos also earned three corner kicks, while the Mustangs had just two.

Cerritos goalkeeper Melanie Corona made five saves in the game, but allowed the early goal to take the loss.

The Mustangs are not scheduled to play again until Tuesday, Oct 8, when they host Suffolk County Community College at Flowers Park in New Rochelle. That game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
