NORTH BRANCH, N.J., February 19, 2019 – Fueled by a double-double from
Aneisha Lyons, the Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball team picked up a 72-53 victory on the road at Raritan Valley Community College on Tuesday. The Mustangs improve to 19-8 overall with the win, while Raritan Valley drops to 22-8.
Lyons registered a team-high 20 points in the win, adding 11 rebounds to complete her sixth double-double of the season. She also led the team with five assists and three steals.
Phyness Baldwin added 10 points and matched Lyons' three takeaways.
India Keene picked up nine points off the bench, adding four assists.
Destiny Jennings pulled down a team-best 12 rebounds and added five points and three blocks.
The Mustangs return home on Thursday, Feb. 21, for a special night at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Thursday will be Sophomore Night for the Mustangs, who will celebrate their graduating sophomore prior to tip-off. The Mustangs will take on their Bronx-campus counterparts, the Monroe College Express, at 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
